Winter maintenance
Wintertime roadway maintenance is carried out from 1 November to 31 March.
Komwag provides wintertime maintenance for the public sector, for private enterprises and for individuals.
Services for the City of Prague are provided in line with the wintertime maintenance operating plan. To make sure that roadways and pathways are passable during winter, the company operates a 24-hour emergency service to care for all tasks relating to moderating the effects of winter and for communication with Technická správa komunikací hl. m. Prahy.
Snow is cleared according to the importance of roads. There are three categories of road. Work on 1st category roads starts immediately the Technical Administration of Roadways (TSK) announces snow clearing commencement. Snowfall is subsequently cleared from 2nd and 3rd category roads. Naturally, the time of both commencement and termination of work is influenced considerably by whether the Technical Administration of Roadways had announced “workplace standby” or “home standby”.
In winter when weather forecasts indicate that poor conditions can be expected on pavements and roads, salt, brine or inert materials are used extensively on roads. The manner and time of use are also controlled by the Technical Administration of Roadways, which decides on whether these are local measures, preventive use or elimination use.
